'I was at home with two small children and we had more food than we needed. I thought, there must be lots of people who would like to get their hands on this fresh stuff,’ she says. She set up a Facebook page for people interested in food swapping but soon realised that face-to-face interaction would work better. 'It’s a bit odd, turning up at a house to exchange food with someone you have not even had a conversation with,’ she says. She talked over the idea with Jewitt, a former colleague who lives in York, and the pair decided to set up a food-swapping initiative modelled on schemes they had read about in America.
